How climate change affects us

Discovering the crucial role climate change plays in shaping the future of our water supply

The impact of climate change is of fundamental importance to us in two ways:

  • Our day-to-day work is greatly influenced by the weather. We now expect to experience drier summers, wetter winters, and more frequent extreme weather events, which will have a direct impact on the services we provide.
  • Our greenhouse gas emissions are a major part of our overall environmental footprint. We use a lot of energy to treat and pump water and sewage, we have a large vehicle fleet, and our wastewater activities emit two powerful greenhouse gases - methane and nitrous oxide - as well as carbon dioxide.
